Holy. Shit.
I think I found the bulk of the set.
More pics later.
Ok, here’s a good example of the pices of the set. I’ve got a box of smaller bricks and some other odds and ends for it. Sadly, it looks like there is only one complete garage door.
I need to find a build guide for this to see exactly what I’ve got. I’m guessing the MicroBus and Tow Truck are the really important parts that people are missing.
Don’t really want to sell this right now, or maybe ever. But if one of you fine folks makes the right offer, I’d at least know they are going to a good home.

Those must be HO gauge models from the sets from the 1950's. Holy shit. Those are extremely rare.

Anyone know anything about vintage toy cars and such?

I think you have a collection of several small sets. This may help . My go to site for instructions is Brickset but they don’t really have much info on the HO stuff.

Looks like 50s stuff - this might be helpful to identify the set numbers/unique pieces and also has instruction downloads.

I see a Dinky Rover 75 and probably Dinky MG, Dinky Austin tow truck, likely Dinky military vehicles, probably Tootsie van/ambulance and fastback Chevy looking car, Auburn hard rubber hot rod. None of these are probably very rare, and chipped paint hurts the British diecast - but they still have some value, at least several dollars apiece.
The Lego set is rarer, and I suspect you can find the instructions and parts list online. It’s worth more than the other cars, maybe even combined.

Very nice!
If you ever decide to part with the VW Bus, I’d like to discuss it with you.
Good luck in your quest!

I didn’t think these were worth much as they as pretty banged up, but I know little about them. There is one that I didn’t post a picture of. I need to research it first. It might be worth something. But I can see myself hanging on to it. We’love see what I can find out about it first.
The LEGOs are interesting. It’s definitely several small sets. I needed to inventory all the bricks. The VW Garage and Würstchen bricks might bring in a decent amount just by themselves, maybe more if I have enough other bricks to complete what they were supposed to make. But again, I don’t know if I want to part with them. We’re not talking thousands of dollars here, so I don’t know. Might be neat to hang on to. But someone throws piles of money at me because they must have them... I’m going to hit up some LEGO forums and see what people say.

Thanks for the links, very helpful. I’m going to inventory the bricks and see what I’ve got. Won’t happen until next week, though.
There was one non-LEGO gem that I haven’t shared yet, but I will soon. Even if it’s not worth anything, it’s pretty neat.

A lot of the British diecast has rare varieties based on paint schemes or wheel types. Those are the details for which to pay attention.
I noticed the Wurstchen brick, probably not part of the VW set. But someone will want them. If you like them and they have some kind of family or sentimental history, hold on to them - they will be hard to find if you ever want to replace them later.

The Wurst brick seems really rare. The VW seems to sell for around $40, just for the brick. I’m not sure what I’m going to do with them. First will be an inventory of the bricks, and then a build day to see them assembled.
There is some sentimental value here. I did play with these when I was little. They were my father’s, he would have got them new back in maybe 1956-58. Somehow, when I was young, I knew to keep this set and all the little piece separate from my piles and piles of 1980s LEGOs. Very glad I did.
I’lo get in to them next week to see what I’ve got and will figure out what to do with them.

If it was me, I would assemble them and keep them on a shelf, a fun display piece and something to connect to your father. I am not a Lego expert, but I know some of those other pieces haven’t been made in decades either - like the garage doors and the three piece and narrow rectangle windows.
I have a Lego MB fintail, found at a local toy show this year. It’s the car on the right:
Lego made these HO vehicles through the mid 60s, I think.

Well, my dad is an asshole, but that’s another story. I have fond memories of playing with them when I was a kid, so there’s that. I am going to put together what I can, like the garage and worst storefront. Maybe I’ll sell the leftovers. I might not get too much for them, but if they go to a good LEGO enthusiast’s home, I’ll be happy.

Ah,I’m sorry. Still a cool and uncommon toy, anyway. I’d be thrilled to find those at a yard sale etc.
If you sell the VW stuff, I know vdubyajohn here would give it a good home.

Don’t be sorry. Don’t get me wrong, he never abused me or anything like that. He’s just repeatedly done a lot of shitty things to my mom, sister, and I under the guise of he knows what’s best. Or not giving a fuck about doing the right thing, or even the sticking to the divorce agreement. It’s a long story, and this isn’t therapy or a bar, I’ll just leave it at that.
I’ll give one example, just for fun. It’s by far, the most ridiculous example. I’m almost 41. When I was 21, I was young, dumb, and in love. I married this girl. No big deal. Things were great. But, a year in to the marriage, she cheated on me. Shit happens. It was hard at the time, but whatever. I was young. So we split up and start the divorce process. We didn’t have a lot of stuff to divide, so it was a relatively easy process, it just took a little time to get done. But she cheated on me. I was, for a little while, heartbroken. Almost two or so after we split and were finally getting the divorce paperwork done, she tells me that my dad had sent her either a birthday or Christmas gift (they were close together, doesn’t really matter which, though). I ask what it was as I thought it strange that he sent her a something. She says he sent a first edition, hardcover, mint, SIGNED copy of ‘Watership Down’, her favorite book. That’s a pretty expensive, pricy, personal gift. When I asked him about it, he said he happened upon it, thought of her and how much she loved the book, so he bought it for her. I said that was very nice of him to buy such an amazing gift for the woman who cheated on and is getting divorced from his son. His reply was that he really liked her and thought she was nice, regardless of what happened between her and I. This is a man, who when I was 15 and visiting him for the summer and happened to need new shoes. After a month or so of walking around San Francisco, my shoes took a major crap. He reluctantly paid for the shoes I picked out, which were in the $30 range. He then deducted the cost of the shoes from the next child support check he sent my mom. But yet, he had no problem years later dropping some hard cash on a gift for the young woman who cheated on his son. And remember that he bought this and gave it to her over a year after we split up.
Anyway... he’s an asshole. I could write a book on all the other things he’s done. All of them far worse, but none as entertaining.
A side note... if that young lady hadn’t of cheated on me exactly when she did, certain things would not have happened and I never would have met Lady SonicGabe. I met and fell madly in love with her back in 1998. Sadly, for better and worse, we didn’t finally end up together for good until two and half years ago. But we did get hitched this summer. So, the dad is still an asshole, but I’m with the right lady (who hates being called a “lady”, which is why I do it). And I’m sitting on some sweet LEGOs. Life is good.

Wow, sounds like an asshole, yeah. Some people are just jerks, can’t be changed. You are the bigger man by moving on.
I hope she also doesn’t like being called “girl”, I cringe when guys say “my girl” :)

Sadly, I have some stuff need to take care of that involves him. I can’t really say more as it might come down to legal action; so no moving on yet...
And she’s to fond of “girl”, she prefers “woman”. But in good fun, I call her “lady”. She says “ladies” are prim and proper, and that she most certainly is not. She’s a strong woman. A woman who wrenches; who get dirty and greasy. And I love her.
